Vowing to continue efforts for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, her sister Dr Fauzia Siddiqui on Sunday criticised the rulers for not honouring the pledges.

“If a killer like Raymond Davis can go to his country without a trial, why not the helpless and innocent Dr Aafia,” she told journalists during her visit to the district. She said that the family had already used all the vital channels for release of Dr Aafia.

Dr Fauzia Siddiqui said the movement she had started for release of Dr Aafia would continue unabated. She recalled that Dr Aafia, who had studied in a famous American university, disappeared from Karachi about 13 years ago and landed in US imprisonment later.

Fauzia said the family was disappointed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government, and added: “The Pakistani rulers do not want to annoy their foreign masters.”She said the authorities had once pledged to bring Dr Aafia back to the country within a month, but now they did not bother to even talk about her or with her family.“We don’t know where the hurdles are and why the Pakistani government has failed in Dr Aafia case,” she said.
